However, since the early days, the scope of tests available has steadily increased and now embrace the widest range of aviation related skills. At the same time, an increasing number of test authors have provided a choice for customers in both the military and civilian markets.

In the very recent past, the speed and power of computers has enabled the use of better technology to enhance many tests without the loss of the psychomotor and psychometric qualities. It has also allowed the development of tests that closely emulate the display potential available in flight simulators.
